Kolkata
A vibrant, pulsating city full of contrasts, transformed from a sleepy little village into the all-powerful seat of the British Empire in India. Calcutta, as it used to be known, was at the heart of the social, cultural and intellectual revival that swept the country in the early 18th and 19th centuries.
Sundarbans
Sundarbans National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, contains the world’s largest area of mangrove forests. Popular for its tigers, a number of endangered species also live in the park, including aquatic mammals, birds and reptiles.
Guwahati
Once known as ‘Light of the East’. The city, Guwahati stretches along the banks of the Brahmaputra River, is the gateway to the fascinating north- eastern regions of India.
Kaziranga
Home to more than 2000 one- horned rhinoceros, the Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve in Assam, with its dense forests, marshlands and elephant-grass meadows, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Majuli
Considered the hub of Assamese culture, Majuli is Asia’s largest freshwater island accessible only by a two-hour ferry ride on the Brahmaputra River.It is home to 22 Satras and the principal seat of Vaishnavite faith, culture and practice.
Jorhat
Jorhat is well-known for its extensive tea gardens and is the nerve centre of the tea industry.
On arrival at Kolkata airport, you will be met by our representative who will escort you to the hotel. Check-in at the hotel and rest of the day for relax. In the evening you may explore nearby places on your own.
Proceed for heritage walk and orientation tour of Kolkata. Explore area around Victoria memorial, and Park Street. Drive past through Indian museum. Visit Jorasanko Thakur Bari which is ancestral home of famous noble prize laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Walk through the lanes of Kumar Tuli to glimpse potter's community which is around 300 years old. Haggle at college street and end your day with a coffee at coffee house. Meal Plan :N/A
Morning at 7 AM transfer to Godkhali jetty through the beautiful countryside and rural bazaars. Arrive at Godkhali and board the motorized boat. After briefing and interpretation by our local guide cum naturalist over Tea/Coffee/Welcome drink, cruise through Gumdi river to the Sajnekhali watchtower and Nature Interpretation Centre. Visit Kamakhya temple one of the most revered shrines of Goddess Shakti in India. Later, drive to the ancient pilgrim centre of Haajo is an attraction for three religions - Hindu, Muslims and Buddhists. After breakfast at the hotel, you will be taken to Kaziranga through the scenic routes, you will reach Kaziranga. Complete check-in formalities at the hotel and unwind. Remaining part of the day is at leisure that you can enjoy as you like. You can take pleasure in a leisurely stroll around the hotel, treating your senses to the beauty all around you or gorge on local delicacies. You can also go shopping at the local market. Head to Neemati ghat to catch ferry to the Majuli. It’s a wonderful 1.5-hour navigating the mighty Brahmaputra. Soak in the calm views around, smell the fresh air of the river and watch other ferries go by. Once on the islands, head to Bamboo cottages and relax. The evening is free to walk the village roads, explore the markets, cycle around or just enjoy the calm breeze sitting by the river. Meal Plan :N/A
We start our day by visiting the Satras, the birthplace of Vaishnavite culture in Assam. We explore the unique mask-making art of Majuli by experiencing it first-hand. Interaction with the artists is a good way to learn how these unique masks take shape, from bamboo structures to the final product. Later `we will visit Mising (the local tribe of this part of the region) village(s). While on the walking tour, we interact with the locals and learn more about their daily lives and culture.
